Rödhamn
The second ÅSS Marina lies at Rödhamn
Among seafarers Rödhamn has been known as a safe and sheltered harbour for many centuries. On the island, which lies only about 10 nautical miles from Mariehamn, there has been both a pilot station and a radio beacon station. On the nearby island of Gloskär there was a genuine archipelago inn until 1939. On Rödhamn the old atmosphere is cherished with a radio beacon, lighthouse keepers cottages, and the old pilot’s cottage which was reconstructed in 1990 according to old plans.
The radio beacon which was closed in 1971 due to outdated technology, is a piece of living culture history as its machine hall and radio room have remained almost untouched since 1971 when the doors were closed and the lighthouse keeper moved away from the island.
There are new jetties, a café, garbage disposal station with recycling, fresh water and toilettes, as well as a wood-heated sauna which can be hired. Further, there are several four-bedded overnight cabins available.
Number of berths: 60
Mooring: Buoy-jetty, anchor-jetty.
History There is a lot to read (in swedish language) about Rödhamns very interesting history at the website Arkeologi på Åland.
